Michel TILLET

November 17, 1917 to September 1, 1953

 

 

 

Michel Tillet

Michel Tillet was born on 17/11/1917 in Marmande (Lot & Garonne).

 

On the 24/12/1935, He signed his enlistment with the 19th Engineering Corps of Algiers.

 

In the mobilization, he moved to the 82nd Telegraphic Company as telegraphic instructor and was dispatched to Maubeuge on 19/09/1939 then withdrawn to Montpellier on 25/06/1940.

 

On 01/08/1940, he joined the 8th Transmissions Group then moved to the Radio Company of the Colonial Mobile Group on 01/08/1941.

 

He was debarked in Dakar on 20/09/1941 and dispatched to Kati (Sudan) to take the function of supply non-commissioned officer.

 

Repatriated on Morocco and allocated to the 67th Transmission Company on 23/10/1943.

 

As volunteer for missions in occupied France joined the BCRAA in Algiers on26/02/1944 and took Marcel Goulet's name.

 

The 14/03/1943 arrived in England to be allocated to the SUSSEX Plan in St Albans where he received a special training in the Praewood House School with other French comrades, under the pseudo of Marcel Treville.

 

He received his paratrooper badge n°21512 on 22/05/1944 after one week training in Ringway, near Manchester.

 

He was not able to be parachuted into occupied France because of the persistent bad weather and then due to the Allied troops’ fast advance.

 

On 24/08/1944, Michel Tillet aka Marcel Treville was embarked onboard a MTB for Dieppe to participate in the liberation of Paris.

 

The 23/09/1944, he embarked onboard a MTB to report to Colonel Lefebvre of the DGER. He carried out several infiltration and intelligence missions behind the German lines in Alsace and in Germany with the group of Major OSTHEIMER of the OSS from 01/10/1944 till 22/02/1945.

 

Dispatched to Calcutta as diplomatic courier on 20/04/1944, Michel Tillet was allocated to the Force 136 on 28/04/1945.

 

As Colonel Imfeld’s radio operator, Michel Tillet aka Marcel Treville was dropped on 18/07/1945 by the Liberator of F/O Ellinor’s crew of RAF 358 Squadron (Mission Report n°1563) in the massif of Dông Hong (High Laos) during the operation Nuisance / Fraise.

 

He joined Colonel Imfeld and participated in the Luang Prabang liberation.

 

He was taken prisoner by Chinese on 23/09/1945 and was released the 05/01/1946.

 

He joined the 1st Half SAS brigade of the Lt Colonel De Bollardière in Saigon on 10/02/1946 as paratrooper instructor. Promoted Chief warrant officer, participated in the liberation of Indochina with 24 war missions and 178 hrs of operational flight.

 

He was repatriated sanitary in France on 25/03/1947.

 

Michel Tillet was appointed on 31/07/1947 to the 2nd Paratrooper Fighter Regiment (RCP) in Bayonne which became the 2nd Shock Paratrooper Battalion (BPC). He was promoted Warrant officer on 01/04/1948 then S/Lieutenant on 01/01/1949.

 

Promoted Lieutenant, he was appointed to the 1st RCP in Philippeville (Algeria) he joined on 31/09/1951

 

Appointed to serve in Far East, Michel Tillet embarked in Bourget Airport on 01/09/1953 onboard Air France Constellation FBAZZ plane bound for Saigon which crashed on the Mount Cemet while the plane was going to land in Nice. The 9 crew members and 39 passengers were killed.

 

Declared Dead for France.
