THE RECRUITMENT OF SUSSEX AGENTS

 

 

     Recruitment was carried out in all the regiments of the French Army (infantry, air, sea); the two Free French Divisions, as well as divisions of the army of Africa.

     Some volunteers, escaped from France by sea: either from Brittany, or through Spain and the camp of Miranda (of evil repute) and, presented themselves in Great Britain. Many came from units based in North Africa. The majority though came from the occupied zone and had had to pass the German checkpoints, in particular the line of demarcation, which divided France in two. All knew how to behave in occupied France.
