SUSSEX MISSION IN PARIS — August 1944
At the same time, a lesser-known aspect of the “Sussex” missions was the participation of teams attached to the special unit “T-Force”, working for the headquarters of the U.S. 12th Army Group under General Bradley. Commanded by Colonel Tompkins, these teams were given priority to enter Paris. Mostly American, “T-Force” also included representatives of the B.C.R.A., and Colonel Rémy was among them.
During this period of insurrection and liberation, Sussex agents operated across Paris, urbi et orbi. Guy Wingate led one of these teams that entered Paris alongside the illustrious 2nd Armored Division of General Leclerc. Their objective: to quickly locate the Abwehr archives and obtain the list of its agents ready to collaborate. It was at the famous Hôtel Majestic, where part of the German headquarters was located, that these teams found the greatest number of files.
